Skopje skyline
Skopje is an eclectic mix of Christian and Islamic culture, with both vying to make themselves visible. This mix has spawned a lively and varied society. In the summer see chess in cafés at morning and energetic clubbers in bars and clubs until 3am.
The Stone Bridge
The Stone Bridge, located in the central part of the city on the river Vardar is the symbol of Skopje. It was built in the 15th century and literally bridges the new and old parts of the city.
Kale Fortress
The famous Slavic fortress' first walls were built by Byzantine Emperor Justinian on the very same place in the beginning of the 6th century. It dominates the left bank of the river Vardar and has marvelous views of the center of the Old Town.
The Millennium Cross
The Millennium Cross, situated on the peak of the Vodno mountain is a major local tourist attraction and hiking zenith. At 66 meters high, its the highest structure in Macedonia, the biggest cross in the world and can be seen from 30 km away.
Holy Savior Church
Ths Holy Savior Church from 1824 is tiny but special as its courtyard is the grave of Macedonia's greatest national hero Goce Delchev, who led the liberation from the Turks. The icons located here are some of the best of the Byzantine Revival era.
