The Club World Cup (aka Club World Championship) is a international football competition held annually for the 6 continental champion clubs, organized by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).
FIFA's only major club competition started as a successor to the Intercontinental (Toyota Cup) which was played annually in Tokyo by the champions of Europe and South America. FIFA launched a new rival tournament in 2000 in Brazil but eventually agreed terms with the Toyota Cup to merge the 2 competitions, with the 1st installment of the relaunched Club World Championship held in Japan in December 2005. The new worldwide format includes the 6 confederation champions & 1 host club, with a shorter format than originally planned in 2000.
